inserting copper fittings very difficult

After i cut and sandpipe the end of the 3/4 copper pipe,
Its really difficult to insert the pipe and fitting together.
They bind.

Without sanding the pipe and fittings they come together OK but thats not the way ur supposed to do it.

Can i use a smoother sand paper?
If you just flux the pipe and fitting and turn them around a bit would that work?

Any suggestions? thx!!

Does these fittings need to be supper clean or can they just be touched with the sand paper. I purchased the oatey sandpaper.

Fitting and pipe both have to be clean or the solders not going to stick.
I use one of these instead of sandpaper.

sometimes the cutting wheel on tubing cutter leaves a small ridge ...thats tells you its time for new wheel....other reason is inported fittings.. ben sr

I had a fitting like that the other day. Usually with a small amount of banging I can get them to go together even if they're tight, but I ended up deforming it quite badly, so I threw it across the crawlspace in disgust. :(

And what is the price of copper today?
There is shinny and then there is dirty... either way it adds up to hold on to for the scrap buyer.

How are you cutting the pipe? If you are using a saw then you are deforming the pipe. Use a tubing cutter.

Yep==Need a sharp cutter----use a file to remove the burr---then get a sharp tubing cutter---
