It's a little more work adding a copper tee and proper shutoff valve but well worth it in the long run.

I installed a new humidifier about a month ago on my furnace and I tee'd in a proper shut-off valve.

Still waiting for someone to respond on a inline water filter for the ice maker line.
On the water line.
As far as the filter goes I never had one because our city water here is clean. I'm sure someone can help regarding the filter issue.

icemaker connection

I had a whole house water filter installed instead of using a specific filter for the fridge water
Our new fridge has a filter built in
But the main filter cuts down on a lot of sediment & junk in the lines
Especially when they open the hydrants to clean the lines out

Clear housing is best so you can see the filter, cost under $50
Filters available at HD/big box
3/4" in/out = no reduction in water pressure
