I think my plumber screwed up - What else is new?

I have two shower heads in a 5x5 shower with a hand held and mixer valve.

The mixer valve protrudes from the green board almost an inch. I have Kerdi on the wall and I'm getting ready to tile Saturday. The valve is going to be sticking out from the finished tile. Is there an escutcheon that goes between the valve and tile?

The 2 shower pipes are protruding at least 6-8" from the wall. I know this is wrong. How do I cut and rethread cast iron pipe?

The shower pipe for the tub in the main bath is only about 1" from the green board which looks right to me.

We've already had to take the green board down and move all the plumbing 6" to center it correctly, along with the floor drain. Thankfully, the house is off the ground and not on a slab.

No, unfortunately that is about the only thing I don't have a pic of. I'll get one Saturday.

There must be a plate that goes between the mixing valve and the tile but I have no idea how thick it is. This is a Delta valve, if that helps.

Some things we do need a picture of....however

You cannot cut and thread cast iron. You probably have black iron nipples sticking out of the wall so you have something to tile around. After the tile is installed the black iron nipples are removed and the shower arms are installed. This is SOP. Surely to god you arent going to have black iron shower arms are you? Not only would that look like $#^+ you'd also have rusty shower water.

I'm trying to get in touch with the plumber to find out exactly what's going on but he hasn't returned my call, yet. I'm going to his house tonight if I don't hear from him.

DH thought the pipes were cast iron but they probably aren't. Yes, they have a cap on the end. I really don't know much about this. I can plumb pvc till the cows come home but I don't know anything about this type of plumbing.

For now, this is the best pic I have of the shower pipes and valve. I'll get a better one Saturday, if needed.

The shower pipe for the tub in the main bath barely clears the wall with the cap on it, unlike these.

Thanks for the help.

I talked to another friend of mine that is a plumber and he said those long shower pipes are temporary and get replaced with chrome tubing.

He's going to go by the house tonight and look at the mixing valve. He said it sounds like it is not seated right in the wall.

My plumber just called and said those pipes definitely come out and the valve should be ok. There was a black plastic piece over the valve that I have to tile around and not the valve/pipe itself.

I guess I was the one that was wrong and worrying over nothing. We've had to redo almost everything that subs have done, including taking off the entire back 1/2 of the roof, so I'm a little jumpy when something doesn't look right.

it should have been cement board and NOT green board behind all this. You might be redoing before you planned.
