Yes, as do several other aspects of plumbing. That's why it's important to check with the locals- just a couple phone calls can clear the air.

Look around the basement ceiling for a capped 2" pipe, If the plumbers were thoughtful, they dropped a vent down for you. Side wall venting is frowned on in my area, but you could possibly use "studor" vents.
Do you know what plumbing code is used in your area? Some inspectors don't like AAV's (studor)
