How soon after sweating a joint will it leak?

So a couple of the joints I just finished soldering on my 1/2 inch copper look terrible, but they haven't leaked yet after about an hour. Am I safe or can this joint fail at any time, or more precisely, after I go to sleep?

Usually if the hold water --they are good----

Why did you have trouble? Did you clean, flux and heat properly? What flux--what solder??--Mike--

What he said. If it does not leak when you turn on the water, it should never leak. There is something called a cold solder joint, that could come apart in the future. The are usually easy to spot, but difficult for me to explain. If the solder flowed into the joint, you should be safe.

I'm guessing he didn't wipe the solder with the damp rag after completion and now there are silver boogers around the joint that don't look professional.

Not that I've ever done that or anything to know what I'm talking about.....

Or there was a tiny bit of water in the pipe and it made it PIA to solder, not that I have done that either.

Sorry for the late response. What happened is I didn't plan out ahead very well, and ended up having to solder a joint that was nearly impossible for me to get to. I had to crane my neck, aim the torch near my face and plastic and a wall, and try to hold the solder at the same time, lol. I'm most proud of the fact that I didn't burn my face off or burn the house down. Everything else was just cake.

Here's a picture of the joint I'm talking about.

Thanks for all the replies.

Its always a plus when you don't burn your house down.

A spray bottle with water is useful to have in these situations

( to put out a fire ) also a piece of furnace sheetmetal can help at times.

1/2 pipe I use propane 3/4 and up I use Mapp for more heat and no cold joints.

I've made dough balls more than once for water drips ..hee hee
