How to remove vinyl adhesive and foam insulation?

Hi there!

I'm cleaning out the kitchen sink cabinet in my new apartment and found that the previous tenant/super used a combination of foam insulating sealant and felt-back sheet vinyl adhesive around the pipes under the sink. I found cans of both under the sink too.

I've been chipping away at the foam with a knife but haven't had much luck with the peanut-butter-looking vinyl adhesive.

Any ideas on how to remove the two?

Thanks in advance for your help!

As a landlord I'd ask the same thing. What are you doing. Try calling your landlord.
