how long should the sump pump run
i could sure use some help--i have a question--
when your main sump pump kicks on???
how many seconds should it stay on until it shuts off--
approximately--5sec---15sec---30sec--45sec--i dont know
i have a tether float so i know i can adjust it--
right now it runs for 4 sec--that seems short to me--
i thought if it comes on too often it can shorten the life
of the switch--my overflow from the humidifier drains
into the pit--please help--thanks
It all depends upon the sump pump basin, pumping capacity of the pump, output pipe, & any drainage pipes leading to the pit & drainage of those pipes
Mine can run for several minutes
Yep, the bigger the sump pit, the longer the pump on time.
Adjust the tether and float so the distance between the turn on point and the turn off point is not too small.
Try this for starters:
The turn off near the bottom, about two inches of water may be left behind.
The turn on near the top, say with the water level 2 to 4 inches below the floor surface.
You might find that under some weather conditions the pit fills up halfway quite rapidly but takes a long time to get near overflowing when the pump turns on. Don't worry about this. Don't lower the turn on point to make the pump get rid of the first half more quickly.
