How to fix, leak under sink, disposal

Hi,
Since new, for 4 years we have had no trouble with the builder's install of the kitchen sink disposal. Lately we found the plumbing at the first connection leaks sometimes when the water is on, but a lot when the disposal is on.

Basically there are no threads coming off the black pipe of the disposal, and this meets with the white PVC with the same diameter pipe and a clear compression type seal. I tried teflon tape and re-tightened with no help.

Does the disposal pressurize the pipes...I just thought it chopped up the food bits? The leak is MUCH worse with the disposal on.

Anyway...is this a proper install requiring a new seal in the white pipes....or is there a better connection I can make?
There is vibration from the housing, as one may expect.

Thanks!

I'd replace the plastic ferrel and see if it still leaks. Nothing wrong with the set up of the piping. If nothing else get a longer extension tube

thanks. I wasn't sure if a fernco type
fitting would work better?

I'd hate to have to fix this every 4 years! :-)
