How is DWV pipe routed through a lavatory wall?

How is DWV pipe routed through a lavatory wall?
Does anyone have a digram perhaps?

2" pipe through a 2x4 would not work so what must be done? Thicker wall?

Thank you in advance

This is what I found behind my lav wall. Yes, thicker walls. A 6" wall will accommodate a 3" vent pipe. Hope this helps

Much appreciated! I'm visual when it comes to learning so the picture is very helpful. Thanks

For modifying old construction, I suppose adding another 2x4 bottom plate would be recommended, yes? Is it then feasible to drill a 3" hole in the seam between the two plates? Would the plates have to be structurally tied together with metal then? What about at the ceiling?

Yeah, I've seen (2) 2X3 walls with all the plumbing in between them so there was no drilling at all.

A lav drain is typically 1 1/2" or 1 1/4"

What size hole is recommended for 2" DWV?

Is it legal to drill that hole in a 2X4?

2" PVC = 2 1/2"

You can't drill a hole that size in a 2x4.

You only need 1 1/4" for a lav drain.

I don't know all the legal stuff, but just found this thread. Appears to be good information.

Can you explain what size the vent should be and how that goes through the top and bottom plates

That will depend on the number of fixtures it's serving. In which case you would need to look at a sizing chart in a local code book

For example, just a simple lavatory with shower/tub, sink and toilet. Nothing else on that vent.

Without looking at a chart, I would say 2" is sufficient.
