Can you get at that from below?

That is an S-trap --no longer allowed by code---If you are going to re-do the floor--that could be opened up to access the drain-(if you can't get at it from below)--be a good time to get the pipe into the wall and add a vent or AAV--(air admittance valve)

'S' traps are still available at home stores, but most codes don't allow them anymore. I see the house is OLD(wood lath plaster), so it might be grandfathered.

That is ,very likely, a 1 1/2" brass tube---standard chrome compression drain fittings should allow you to make a neat coupling---

The toughest thing will be getting a good, square cut on that old pipe. I would be afraid it would split. What is under the floor? There might be a better place to start from.

getting a square cut is what im hoping for without runing the rest of the pipe. if i have to ill wait a week till i can afford a plumber.

i dont know whats under the floor. i cant get to any of it without destroying something else, which isnt what i really want to do.

do they make a coupling that goes from a chrome tube to a pvc tube?
if so whats it called?
or how about using one of those rubber sleeves?

Look in the store where the sink drain pars are---you want a compression coupling---

Short tube with a nut on both ends---will allow you to switch from plastic to chrome--ot chrome to chrome.

You could cut that with a tubing cutter--If you have room--an 1 1/2 stubby one would work--but might cost more than a plumbing call--
