Question

How to cut a 20 year old soil pipe

Does anyone have any experience in cutting a 20 year old hub type soil pipe9 cast iron) to do a repair. This pipe is below grade in a house built in the early 1980's. I've been told to use a chain type cutter but it might crack the pipe? I cannot get down there with a grinder but I can with a sawzall but I don't know what bale to use? Thanks

Score the the pipe with the cutter. Snug the chain down around the pipe and turn it back and forth. Snug alittle more then snap.

Carbide grit blade. Cut the pipe, not the fitting. If you cut into the fitting, it will take you all day and a lot of blades. 4" cast, I can cut it in about a minute or so. Chain cutter (aka snap cutter) works well too.

Lennox also make an 8" blade for cutting cast iron which lasts longer than the carbide ones.
