How to connect nylon water filter fitting to 1/4" copper

My house has a 1/4" copper line with nut & ferrule connecting it to a nylon fitting for the inline water filter. The nylon fitting is threaded. Is tape needed for this nylon to brass connection? Is the brass ferrule also used?

Ive never seen a plastic fitting quite like that one before,Id say there should be a ferrule under the brass nut.
Be carefull putting too much teflon tape on there or you could crack/split the fitting.
