How bad to dump coffee grounds in kitchen sink?

Curious- I dump in trash bag. But we were debating the seriousness of grounds as opposed to the very serious business of dumping animal fat, chicken bones, etc, etc. (heck, I dont even OWN a disposal!)

Any plumbers really see grounds (pun?) for coffee being a bad thing? Ever get a call to unclog a sink and have it be caused by coffee?

Thanks

Would you pore sand down the drain?
Amounts to the same thing.
Use it as compost or put it in the trash can.

The best place to put those coffee grounds is in the garden....especially if you have clay soil....

I've seen a lot worse go down a kitchen sink- really shouldn't be an issue if well flushed.
Think about composting instead though

Just throw them into your flower beds and garden. I toss mine in the trash, then rinse the little bit left in the filter, since I use a reusable filter in my coffee maker.

I put coffee grounds down the disposal while its running and have for years. Although my wife flushes lipstick tubes and tampons down the toilet so we might not be the best example.

What seriously? Why would you do that?? Its not that hard to disposes of them and the toilet is probably the worst place for them.

If I was an unscrupulous Plumbing Contractor I would say sure dump them down the drain then give you my phone number and say give me a call if you ever have drain problems. Put them in the garden or on the lawn or in the trash.

Bannana peels through a disposal are the worst thing I have ever encountered. It was like a hunk of hickory wood in the pipe.

It really depends on how your kitchen sink drain was run and if your dishwasher is also draining down that drain. The dishwasher hot water discharge will aid in keeping grease in control if your drain is made out of ABS or PVC plastic properly pitched the grounds will not have a problem. My go down it every night for 25 years. Never seen a blockage.

I figure the sewer rats may need some caffeine in their diet... I hear that they may get fat and lazy down there.

Also a great habit is to throw ice cubes down the disposal and run it. This helps keep the blades clean and sharp making it better to keep them caffinated rats out...

Have a good days and always a light heart... Later.

too much $$ per cup. Also, very environmentally unfriendly. Plastic cups- toxic waste, maybe not in your drain, but in a land fill, or even likely floating eventually in the ocean.

But I have tried them and they do make tasty coffe.
