how to apply Teflon tape on thread?

How to apply Teflon tape on MIP male threaded pipe connector?

Is there drawing or graph showing the correct way to allow tape to lay correctly when screw into receptacle?

Hold fitting in your left hand threads facing up, hold the tape in the right hand, wind it in a clock wise directon. Make sure to keep tention on the tape.

You may have been trying to wind it in the wrong direction that's why the tape keeps getting pushed off the fitting.
If you use teflon pipe dope instead it's less likly to leak and easy to apply.

Don't tape the first two threads, apply clockwise, and have at least 50% overlap.

To many people wrap it to much just wrap it 11/2 times to 2 times. No reason to wrap more it puts strain on the fittings.

It's actually against the gas code in Canada (B149).

Hold the pipe with the threaded end pointing forward, as if to screw it forward into a fitting that is in front of you.

Press the end of the Teflon tape on the top of the pipe, with the spool of tape to the left.

Bring the spool around under the pipe wrapping the pipe counterclockwise. Do 4-1/2 turns before cutting the tape.
