I was wondering if there was a quick fix to this problem I am facing or if the valve needs to be replaced. The main valve leading to the house is a gate valve, and although I've turned it completely clockwise, it is not turning off. I've tried turning it counterclockwise, clockwise, and every other method, but to no avail. The handle is not having trouble turning, it's just not turning off the water supply to the house.
Another thing about this gate valve is that according to vendor specs (from red white valve company), it's supposed to be a non-rising stem gate valve, but the stem pops open. Is this natural? I'm thinking its time to replace it, but was wondering if anybody had a better idea. Thanks!
Gate valves after a few years never work.
And that's nuts to have in out in the yard like that. It would have looked so much better and less likely to freeze under the house.
gate might of unscrewed from the stem and can you shut the street off then crack the gate nut to pull the inside out.....soak it with some WD40 and use a large adjustable to break the nut loose...maybe:wink:
To all reading this post now and in future,,,,shut off water all homeowners ...
