hot water tank placement

does anyone know how far from a bathroom door a hot water tank needs to be in order to NOT be affected by this code, or does that even matter?

7.26.1 ..... An enclosure containing the water heater shall not be accessed by a pedestrian door which can be opened from the bathroom or bedroom.

i have a half wall enclosing the furnace and water tank area. the bathroom door is behind this half wall....has always been this way. a recent upgrade to furnace has caused me to now have to comply to this code update, since the tank moved a bit. nice huh?

thank you!!!

Although written a bit differently, most codes do not allow a water heater to be in any "living space". I realize that reconfiguring will be a pain, especially since this has been code for many years and someone got by with it. Seems the simplest way would be to make the furnace and water heater area a separate room.
