hot water shuts off in shower

I'm not a plumber by any means, and this is a problem (really more of an annoyance) that has me stumped.
My house has a single full bathroom. The hot water works fine in the entire house, including the shower, but if the shower is turned all the way to hot, almost all water flow stops after approximately a minute. The shower has a single handle mixing valve, and if the handle is turned even very slightly away from full hot, then full water flow returns immediately. The water temp is fine, still hot. It only happens in the shower, all sinks act normally. I have not tried the tub faucet to see if it happens there as well.
I'm assuming its a problem with the mixing valve, which will be replaced this summer when we do some remodeling and make that bathroom larger. I'd like to make sure it is not some other possible problem that I could resolve during the remodeling, which would be costly to try to repair after remodeling is finished.
Any tips would be helpful and appreciated.

Sounds like a cartridge issue in your faucet.

Thats what I am assuming. If so, it will be resolved with the remodel, so no point in bothering with it in the meantime. I am just concerned there may be something else that may cause it, and don't want to have to remove new walls or something like that to fix it afterwards.

Would it not make sense then to simply replace the cartridge now? Then if you were still having problems you could address them in the reno?

Definitely sounds like a cartridge or burn safety issue.
