HOT water running but no cold only in ensuite?

We have hot water running to our ensuite upstairs but no cold water at all to sink faucet. The pipes are warm though. Also no hot water coming out of shower now no water at all in shower, and when I turn on shower the sink faucet dribbles??? I am confused. Its -38 here today and about -45 the past couple days. Please help..thanks

I would do some serious searching for what is probably a frozen pipe. At those temps, anything that not heated is going to be a problem and the colder it gets, the more the ice expands to a point so the better chance of rupturing a pipe.

I would suspect the reason you have hot and not cold is the heat from the water heater kept the entire pipe warm enough to prevent freezing. I suspect to the shower, even the hot water pipe is more exposed to the cold.

A single handle shower valve w/temperature and pressure balancing will not work if it doesn't have equal pressure on both the hot and cold water lines. The fact that the sink dribbles when you try the shower means that none of the piping in the bathroom is frozen; The hot water is dribbling through the shower valve, running down the cold side and eventually dribbling out your sink faucet (I'm assuming this is only when you open the cold tap at the sink, correct?).

It's the cold water line that feeds the entire bathroom (before it branches off to the fixtures) that is frozen somewhere.

did I miss where he said he had a single valve faucet? especially one with pressure balancing temp control?

It's an assumption. How else would you explain the fact that nothing comes out of the shower head, but it dribbles at the sink when you try the shower valve? My theory explains both.

Not saying you aren't right, just I try not to assume too much.

so with that, bottom line; there is a frozen pipe somewhere and coldab needs to figure out where if he is going to prevent a ruptured pipe, if it hasn't ruptured already. Agreed?

Agreed. It's possible it's a two-handle valve, but then there'd have to be two frozen pipes to explain what's going on:
1) the cold feed to the entire bathroom (not the entire pipe, just a blockage somewhere before the line splits off to the fixtures.)
2) the shower head riser (above the valve)
