Is it low in all the fixtures? Just one?
Has it always been low?
Anyone been doing any plumbing work?

krey 02-07-2013 11:13 PM

No it has never been low. Just started yesterday. No plumbing work done and it is in a faucets....

Ok I give up, what's this mean?
"and it is in a faucets"
Are you saying all the faucets have low pressure?

krey 02-08-2013 12:05 AM

Don't give up on me yet. Yes the actual faucets. When I turn the hot water on it doesn't have a lot of pressure! My cold water pressure is fine. I have faucets with to handles marked cold and the other one for hot.

It is important that we know some critical information. How many bathrooms do you have? Is the hot water pressure low in every bathroom? Is the hot water pressure low in the kitchen? Faucet- means 1 faucet. Faucets- means two(2) faucets. Two means the number 2. Too means also. Please be clear and we can help you.

I have 1 bathroom so my bathtub hot water pressure is low my bathroom sink is low and my kitchen is low. Sorry to my previous comment was a typo. So all 3 faucets in my house have low hot water pressure.

Bad valves at the fixtures. Cut the old Gate valves out, and replace with Ball Valves. Also check the screens on the faucets, to make sure that they are not filled full of crud. When was the last time the water heater was drained & flushed? Do you get good water flow at the faucets for the washing machine if you have one?

Now you can have a plumber come in and put a pressure valve in the line for cold and see what the house pressure is, and then go from there. I found my problem with my kitchen sink, was crud build up in the valve and also salts, from the water softening process that our city uses to soften the water through its system, was also built up inside the tubing for the kitchen faucet.

Old steel pipes?

krey 02-08-2013 09:07 AM

Is all of this going to be expensive? I know I've never cleaned the water heater. I didn't know you had to. The water heater was installed in 2006.

It's free.
Hook up garden house to the drain and run outside, open drain for a few min. shut off drain, remove hose.
It's suppost to be done at least once a year.
All the sand, heavy minerals, settle to the bottom of the tank.
Let it build up to low and it can short out the elements or insulate the bottom of a gas heater enough to take longer to heat the water.
Sometimes it's so bad you'll hear poping and rumbling noises from the minerals breaking free from the bottom of the tank.

Do you have well water, or city water?

Joe means to hook up a garden hose to the drain on your hot water heater. There is a drain spigot that looks like a hose bib near the bottom of the tank. Sometimes it is behind a small panel. The water coming out will be very hot so be careful. Wear gloves.

After you do this a couple of times you will have to take off the aerators at the fixtures, and clean out the sediment that will be in them. You will turn them clockwise because they are facing down. Put them in hot white vinegar for a while and get the sediment out, then reinstall them.

Sounds to me like a valve is partially closed or broken on the hot water side since it's affecting all of the faucets. Try closing and opening the water valves that are near your hot water heater. If you aren't sure what's what, post a picture of your water heater.

Dang I love this site!!!! My grandpa is coming over and we are going to do the water hose thingy. I have city water. It's very hard water too! Since I'm a female I had no idea that I was suppose to be cleaning it once a year!!!! I've never have cleaned it! I will post a picture so you guys can see it just in case y'all have any other tips. :-) I will keep y'all posted on how the hose thing does!
