Hot water heater wont stay lit

Hi Folks!

I am a novice DIY. Most of my handy man knowledge is in refinishing, and plastering. Trying now to tackle my hot water tank. I have an A.O. Smith gas hot water tank. I'm fighting to keep the pilot lit. I am able to get it thru the process, and hear the woosh sound, get some water for a short period, and then when I turn on the water some time later I'm finding that the pilot went out again. So, now I'm wondering if I should try draining my hot water tank, or if I'm going to have to change the thermocouple. Not sure what to do here.

Any advice welcome.
