Hot water heater pan sizing

What's the proper sizing for a hot water heater pan?

I have a 74 gal AO Smith gas HWH that I plan to get installed, and it has a diameter of 26.5" although the legs sit inside of this diameter. I figure maybe 1" clearance around the circumference, so min of 28"?

Aluminum of course, due to the gas.

Big enough for the heater to fit in the pan. You can put it in a 26.5" pan if you wanted to. Doesn't make much sense, but it's not illegal and there are no code requirements for the size, other than the drain should be minimum 3/4"

I was asking primarily due to the lack of availability of larger size pans at the big box stores.

Plus, a larger one allows access to the fitting if the need arises to tighten it.

I was able to find a 28" diameter one one at Lowe's today, so that should suffice. Thanks.
