Hot water heater leaking from top

My hot water heater started leaking yesterday from the top of unit but not from either of the hoses. I was just wondering if I could do anything to get me through a few days before I get a new one. Thanks

What is leaking? The T&P valve? The tank? A fitting?
If it appears to be the tank, you should replace it asap. It could burst and you would have a major flood on your hands if you weren't around to turn off the power or gas and water to it immediately.
