Hot water in Cold

Hello,

I have a Kohler 2975 thermostatic mixing valve in my shower. While taking a shower, every few minutes a brief (1 second) burst of very hot water comes out the shower head.

Do I need to replace the cartridge (1046104) and the check valves in the integral supply stops? Or just the cartridge or just the check valves?

I'm also thinking this is the culprit that is putting hot water in my cold water causing my bathroom sink faucet (2 handle) to have warm water in the cold for a few minutes upon 1st turning it on.

Thanks

You can try to adjust the anti scald first, if no better, replace it.

No need to replace stops unless they are leaking. Lets see what others recommend.

It's the anti scald inside the valve not the stops.

By anti scold I assume you mean cartridge?

Yes, it's located in the cartdrige. Recommend you read pages 3-15, in your home owners guide first before doing anything (click on link). Great read, it addresses and explains your issues. Just a thought.

Just a suggestion, if no better, or still not satisfied, call kohler and explain to them the issue you are having, they may send you a new cartdrige and check valve at no charge. Hope this helps you a little better.

OK, replaced the shower cartridge discussed above and hot water spurts stopped, but still have the problem of multiple faucets with tepid (80 deg F) water for 30 - 60 seconds coming out of cold water faucet. Cold water temp is normally 65 deg F.

I have 4 other single handle faucets (2 shower, 2 sinks).

I have a hot water recirc pump with check valve piped to the drain of the water heater.

Can a single lever faucet bleed hot to cold without it being used?

Moens can do this, not sure about other brands

I have Delta and Kohler. I have the cartridge replacements for these 4 on order.

There does not appear to be a method to determine which one is the culprit other than to change one at a time and check results.

Any other ideas. This is a new house, completed 3/2013, and my plumber assures me that there is no physical contact between a hot water pipe and cold water pipe.

turn off the shut offs under the sinks----that will stop any crossover--and allow you to figure out which one is the culprit.

2 are in showers, so that is not possible, but that will narrow it down.

thanks

Well changed all the cartridges and still have the hot water in the cold faucets. Noticed the cold water inlet to the hot water heater gets very hot. Any suggestions? Can't believe I bought shower valves without the stops. Live and learn.

Here's a pic of the Water Heater with the recirc pump piped to the drain.

I'll let a plumber answer this one---Does the water heater have an expansion tank?
