hot water

I recently moved to a 2nd fl. Apt. The hot water tank is fully up and running but I'm not getting any hot water in my apt. In the basement are numerous pipes, some not connected, I see one crossed over with a faucet flex line. How do I find my main line to receive hot water via sinks and tub? ...... Stephen
