Hot upstairs but cold downstairs

Hi all

got a problem with my heating, the radiators upstairs are always hot and we have no problems there. but the ones downstairs just seem to do what they want. sometimes they work and heat up (all over not just at the bottom) and sometimes they just don't doanything and stay cold. Even though the ones upstairs are boiling out.
Also my boiler has started making a loud popping noise.

Anybody got any ideas. Its freezing downstairs

You might have balance valves on the return lines that have to be adjusted to limit the hot water to the upstairs loop and send more Hot water to the lower level. if you find the vales and attempt to adjust them I recommend you mark the starting point so you can go back to square one if need be. Or maybe you have a 2 zone system and the downstairs zone is not working.
