Basically trying to hook up a dishwasher. Want to know if that unused PVC pipe is a drain line or vent stack.

can't really tell from the angle of the picture...does it have auto vent screwed on.1st if it does its wrong should be verticial... 2nd you can cut this wrong pipe out install drain for dw and correct vent at same time...

I understand none of what you said. I'm a carpenter. I stay away from plumbing. This is a close up.

ok thats better ..not a auto vent ..looks like just a pluged off drain mybe clean out...should be able to drain dw there... how about close up of end of dw drain hose..

Looks like a cleanout. Leave it be and install a DW tailpiece.

no the black pipe on left side of drain,it has a tee going to other side then a fitting below it???? is it a another tee facing wall...

Its 2 drains coming down from either sink going to a t. With a spacer in the middle ( i assume for a y fitting for dishwasher) Then to the trap with a cap on bottom to drain out. Then into the wall.

is that a tee or a wye below the 1st tee....the opening would be facing the back wall feel with your hand ......it looks like a fitting you could attach dw to...
