My Plumber does not want to sign a contract, wants cash instead, it that wise to do?

sounds suspecious to me...

paying cash and signing contract is really two different issues...

even you pay him cash, he should sign you a receipt as well...

I personally would not find someone like this, do things to all his advanteagous... there are tons of contractors outside....

Thanks for the input, I figured something's not right.. it's hard here in Hawaii, I live on an island with only 2 plumbers.

well, then may be you can try the other plumber, I guess .... good luck... hope they didn't form an entity which monopoly the plumbing industry at your island...

One good thing about an island - If he leaves, he leaves his business and possibly land (if not leased) behind. I would imagine the two plumbers know each other well.

Try to get a contract if it is a major job. If a repair, get a good understanding (on both sides) up front. In repairs and modifications, there is always the unknowns that you can expect.

Take photos before, during and after. Even if you do not have a problem, you will know what you have hidded in the wall.
