Hissing Sound - Automatic Steam Vent

1 Attachment(s)
I was told to post the following question here, and not plumbingzone.com

I have an automatic steam vent (refer to attached) that attaches itself on the side of my bathroom heating pipe. It's been hissing for over 24-hours and has become extremely annoying. The building super is out of town until late next week so he can't help me. I lightly tapped the vent with a hammer, thinking that it may be partially clogged, but that didn't work.

As a temporary fix, can I wrapped the vent with aluminum foil so that it limits the annoying hissing sound?

there is a little float in there it's suppose to hiss:wink: might be a piece of dirt in the vent causing a higher shrill...have him check it

He won't be back until late next week. I'll try to keep tapping it, hoping to dislodge whatever caught in the vent.

that looks like it is up on a riser pipe to the next floor put a wet dish towel or face cloth rag anything over it it will dampin the noise...but still bleed...
