Help! wax ring/closet ring

Hello everybody!
Recently my toilet upstairs start leaking. I decide to replace wax ring, but as you can see on the picture, metal flange is not in the good shape. Should I replace metal flange as well, or not? If so, how difficult it is? Does metal flange attached only to studs, or to PVC pipe as well?
Thanks a lot for help.

I don't see a problem with any of it. It's just ugly and sticky.

Just pry the old funnel and ring out of there (if it is still there) and replace it with a new one. Use the one with the funnel built into it. Also be sure to buy the thicker/taller seal.

I think "Kant Leak" (or something like that) is a common one you can find almost everywhere.

That still looks useable--however,if the ring is to rusty to hold a toilet bolt securely--you can get a flange repair ring--it's a thin flat steel ring with 'ears' for the screws---that goes over the top of the rusty one and simply screws to the floor---

Now that I look at it closer it looks as if one of the slots is damaged. How about cleaning it up a little and providing one more photo. Remove everything (goop and paper wise) that you can so we can see what's really there.

Yeah, one slot looks "open", slightly bended at the "entrance" . Someone put to much force on it. Anything I can do about it?

also I just notice that flange has 4 holes for bolting to the studs, but only 2 screws. That probably not good as well, or two screws is good enough?

Like Mike said- get one of these. A good hardware store will carry it. Put 4 screws in the new holes
