Help! New tile in shower now faucet won't fit

I had tile installed in the shower (replaced plastice shell). Now with the new backerboard and thicker tile, the fiixtures won't fit. Plumber said he had to replace the "galvanized" pipes that lead down to the basement with copper. Esitmate 1100. Is there extenders or another way.

Are the supply pipes easy to get to below the floor?

What is your plumber thinking using galv pipe for the spout..It will eventualy rust and can cause staining of the tub.

If I was your plumber..and I assume that the plumbing was completed with the backer board not installed.. I would have,

Used copper for the shower riser and just after the connection off the valve put a shark bit coupling so that down the road when you need to replace the valve it won't such a Pain in the arse to remove the shower valve.

Used copper for the tub spout.

Simple fix for the water supply is if the lines below the floor are easy to get to. Remove the galv pipe and use PEX connections and lines to the shower valve. This will allow you to move the valve in so that you can install the trim rings. You will also need to put a 1x4 in to secure the valve.

That's is what was suggested by another plumber. The pipes run donw to the garage and are easy to get to. Is this a DIY job or should I go ahead and pay the plumber to replace the pipes.

Can you sweat pipe?

And are you going to replace the shower riser?
