Help ! May have to replace older model Streamway mobile home tub faucet valve body !!
I have a Streamway older model mobile home tub faucet, small, mid 70's model. The seat on the hot side has broken off,so when I removed it, it somehow cross threaded the valve body slightly, or "burred" up the entry groove. The size is 1/2" diameter ,with 24 thread count (1/2 #24) Now the valve seat wont fit ,it seems to not have that "thread needed on the valve body" to grip the seat .When looking at the valve body seat hole ,it's just slightly roughed up I think. I cannot find a tap in that threadcount size at any Lowes,or Ace hardware. Found one online though ,only around 10 bux shipping and all.
I hear I can also re-tap it using a 9/16 24 tap, but just wanna be sure!
Should I re-tap it,run a bolt through it,replace it, etc...?
Any tricks of the trade??
Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated !
I would try chasing it with the orignal tap size using a starter tap and some light oil. Let it find its home when starting it. Your not re-tapping/cutting new threads, just cleaning up the doinked up ones. Try a a local machine shop or on-line for the tap.
They aren't that expensive,+ can be found at the places you mentioned....
