HELP! Faucet Problem!

This is the weirdest faucet in that you would think that to turn it off you would push the handle down but it is just the opposite and when you push the handle on the sprayer, the flow from the faucet doesn't go off. Did the plumber install it correctly? The faucet is newly installed but I have actually had it for over 12 years! Has the faucet gone bad from sitting all those years?

It's a beautiful faucet so I would like to keep it but I sure don't like how it works

The faucet has a cartridge in it that has been installed upside down. On the cartridge is a lever that operates with the handle. Remove the faucet handle (after turning the water supply valves off) and turn the cartridge 180degrees. Some sprayers just never shut off all the flow from the spout.

for what its worth I agree, the cartridge is inserted upside down... and easy fix.

Thank you so much!!!! It did seem crazy that you didn't turn the faucet lever down for off. Sorry to hear no fix for the sprayer. It doesn't just trickle out, it pours out. I am a stickler for wasting water, otherwise I wouldn't care.

you need to turn on the faucet to use the sprayer? it should not come out the faucet at all, should it?

Yes, here is the faucet with sprayer in full force. Notice how strong the flow in the faucet at the same time. Sure is a waste of water

No. It won't work when the faucet is off. None of my sprayers ever worked seperately.

if it sat around for 12 years, and who knows how long on the shelf at the store, the gaskets are probly toasted. lol and/or the diverter is stuck/sticky. if you feel ambitious, you can shut off the water, pull the faucet and check things out. in a dry attic, those rubber o-rings/washers could have dried up to nothing. this exploded view may help you.

majakdragon was right about one thing though, most diverters gunk up fast and do not seal properly when the sprayer is activated. i'd almost forgotton that i replumbed our old kitchen to bypass the need for the faucet to be on! i always hated that... lol

I guess you sure are right about this. I am getting water in the sink base cabinet and it is coming from inside the faucet itself and slowly dripping down into the cabinet. Can I take the faucet apart leaving it in place? Or do I have to completely remove the faucet from the sink?

I remember it was a really expensive faucet in it's day, which is why I didn't sell many of them. It can from a cabinet display which brings me to .....

Now I am worried about installing my 12 year old Kitchenaid dishwasher that has never been used either. Should I just trash it????

I am pretty sure this faucet isn't Moen but I bet it's built similar.

the faucet should come completely off and disassemble it carefully, then find and replace any washers or o-rings. that should stop the under-cabinet leak. you will no doubt need a new diverter too so the sprayer works properly. any good plumbing supply store should carry the parts, just take the old ones with to match.
wow on the dishwasher.... all i can say as to if it will work ok is.....maybe?

Well, giving a second and closer look at the leak under my sink, I think it may be more from the connections. With dry hands I do not feel water on the flex hose coming from the faucet but there are drips from the connections. I'll take care of that first and see if it clears the leak but either way, I think you all have given good advice, I should replace washers, O rings and diverter while I have the faucet apart. I sure wish I had thought to take the faucet to the plumbing supply before I had it hooked up ... DUH! I think I will have my appliance repair man came and change any hoses or parts on my dishwasher before I have that hooked up. Not too easy to see leaks from a dishwasher like a faucet.
