Help with bathroom faucet

Maggie, Welcome to the Forum

If the 'stem'
you referred to operates the sink stopper then perhaps you can take it to a local Plumbing Supply House not HD but a place where plumbers go to buy parts- look in the Phone book under plumbing supplies.

Brass or other metal parts in a sink are not glued together but are mechanically fastened. A stem or another part that appears to be unglued is either broken or no longer mechanically fastened. Now with a good flashlight get under the sink to get a closer look to observe what's happening.

Thanks so much for the reply. The stem i am talking about does control the stopper. I had plumber come out last week he put sonic epoxy on it came back a few hrs. later then told me it wouldnt hold. He said if i could find something that would adhere brass to vitreous china he would could fix it. I am looking up plumbers supplies now thanks again!

wow.. had to look this up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitreous_enamel;

so you have a sink (China Bowl) with a waste drop that's broken... plumber didn't have one on their truck... attempted to glue it..didn't work... " best responce by plumber might have been... sorry don't have this part on the truck... I can try to glue it... might or might not work.. or I can come back...with the right part...1 1/4 or 1 1/2 brass or brass with chrome plate ...sorry that would be another trip charge. what you need is a new....? ( you can replace it yourself...or find it and call us back...another trip charge)? For the $$ you paid they at least owed you a " What you need is"...

weird plumber didn't have it... common item... If I dug in my buckets I bet I could find three... in chrome... and I'm not a plumber....yes I am a hoarder... BUT... you never know when it will come in handy.... LOL.

PS
Hope they didn't charge by the hour waiting for things to dry.

2 Channel locks, plumbers putty, Teflon tape.. sore back.. right parts... you are good to go...
