hanging a shower curtain rod on tile

I have a shower where the tiles go to the ceiling. I am thinking about drilling tiles with a masonry drill, installing those plastic screwholders they use for drywall, so I can keep a shower curtain rod in place.
Is this a good idea? I'm a little worried I will crack some tiles in the process.

Thanks

Why not just use a rod that doesn't screw in anywhere - they are like tension rods that unscrew and get wider, wedging themselves in place.

I would like to. But my experience with tension rods so far is they tend to bend and bow instead of tightening up against the wall. Then they slip.

Did you find a tension rod that works well?

The one i have used in my house has worked just fine...

If you do decide to drill into tile, get a tile-cutting drill bit.

Bought a cheap one at Target. It's been up for 3 years now with no problem.

buy yourself a diamond tile drill bit. Much faster than a masonary bit and less chance of cracking the tile. Cost is about $6 at HD

I agree with Canada, use a diamond tipped drill bit. I did this and it worked out fine. Drill slow and let the bit cut into the tile, apply pressure, but don't be pushing as hard as you can. Also, use a cup of water to dip the bit into every so often to keep it cool, you can also wet down the area you are drilling into. Good luck.
