Well not really but what do you do?!?!? My wife and I bought a foreclosure that was lost by a family that built their own house. We are trying to live here as we are doing the work and I keep encountering NIGHTMARES!!!

I did my sketch of the kitchen remodel and wanted to rearrange the kitchen cabinets into a different layout. The current sink is in a corner cabinet that is in the middle of the room that connects to a peninsula. The new sink is planned to go 3 feet to the left. I started tearing out the space in-between the studs where new rough work would go and I found insulation in an interior wall. So I am thinking now I have to rip the whole wall out. Puzzled I went into basement and only found a 2 inch PVC pipe coming through the floor with about a 6 foot run to the main line which is 4" PVC The nearest drain that ties into the main that could have a vent is the shower or laundry which share a wall about 12 feet away, but when I look outside only one vent pipe comes out of the roof and its located at the point where the 4" PVC exits the house to the septic system.

So I am thinking this kitchen sink has no vent. The p-trap is done as the attached photos indicate. I can post more pictures but other than a loop vent is there any way to get a vent on my new sink location. All this craziness is being removed but I need to properly vent this sink.

I guess help is an understatement.

The new sink will go to the left of the microwave where you can see some of the wall torn out.

Is there no way to travel horizontally in that wall and get out of the roof somewhere else? Obviously that' major drywall demo work, but the BEST idea is to get out of the house completely with it straight away. Loop vent is 2nd option, but you still have to run the loop vent to wherever there's another vent that you can tie into. Code actually requires the nearest wall that a vent can travel through.

I will have to tear out the wall as far up as I can go it ends at about 9 feet. About another 3-4 feet where railing ends is the first wall a vent can go up but there is nothing outside exiting through the roof. I'm praying when I get higher I will find a pipe running horizontally under that railing. But if I don't...

My original plan was to open the wall in the joint space below cabinet and then open a another space about 3' tall which would be hidden by the cabinet. I was hoping vent would cross somewhere where it would be visible but I have insulation in this wall. I don't know why??? There is a bathroom vanity on the opposite side of this wall.

Do rough work, tie into vent, close up wall easy...

I'm just a homeowner, do I cut a hole in IP joist and try to use old 2" to 4" connection or will I need to create a new connection into the 4" main?

Hello!

I have opened up the space and can see up to the floor above and there is no vent running horizontal in this wall. What do I do??? There is a bathroom on the opposite side of this wall but its ceiling is the floor of the loft. If I find it in bathroom I guess I can make a through and through hole and then tie into it if it exists?

Found a vent pipe! Will only have to cut through one stud!!!

What I don't know but is opening a can of worms is do I chase it to make sure it exits the house? Is there a test I can perform when I cut into it? What's the possibility this loft didn't exist in the original house and they just cut it off at the floor? Original owner did a remodel and add-on before I bought it.

Tie in and cross my fingers?

He's going to have to cut more anyway, but without exposing the entire length of piping all the way to the attic space and/or where it exits the roof, he'll never actually know.

Can you get on the roof? I'd see if you can cram a hose down the vents one at a time until you can feel water draining through that vent. For option B) see above

Its 28 degrees with a snowy roof so won't be doing water thing until I need to be done with kitchen The only vent on that side from an earlier picture is attached. I guess I will have to step up the bathroom demo and hope and pray the vent crosses the ceiling of the bathroom. There's no other place it can go it doesn't go left to where I opened the wall first.

The hall bathroom vanity is exactly in that location on the opposite side. What I don't see and don't know if I should look for is how old sink if it all ties into this vent. This wall ends at the railing so vent has to cross ceiling of bathroom...

Old kithcen sink I'll take tee out and connect vent to drain and close wall up.
