Granite stain
New bathroom faucets said to use plumbers putty. It stained the granite top. I removed the putty and the stain and started over. Second time I used silicone caulk. But it also stained the made dark circles around the faucets. What now?

To avoid this same problem on granite or any natural stone surface I was always told not to use any oil based sealant when installing any fixture on these types of surfaces. Problem is how to seal the fixture penetration through the stone. Get yourself some 1/8" thick foam padded two-sided tape, or some 1/4" foam rubber (no sponges), or foam wind seals for electrical outlet covers and make yourself a seal that is the same size as the fixture escutcheon. Then mark the exact center of your seal and cut a hole the same size as the fixture penetration -not the hole-. Put the pieces together,
tighten everything up and you will have a water-proof non-staining seal for any natural stone surface.
