Granite Slab Bathtub ?

I am planning to buy 5 pieces of 3 cm precut , edged, holed, slab granite to build a bathtub. Only one side will be exposed and I plan to support that with a timber that runs lateral. The finished dimensions will be 25" X 60" X 36".

Any thoughts or experiences?

Are you going to set them over a mortar bed with a liner membrane between the mortar and the granite? Or do you have another way of waterproofing it?

I suppose if you built it with silicone (like an aquarium) it could work.

I have no experience, but I'm curious about how you're planning to do this.

I'd think you'd need to support the granite very well so it won't crack with all the strain a tub gets.

Granite Slab Bathtub ?

Since only one side is not supported by a wall, I was planning to use a timber mounted laterally midway up the open side.
We just finished doing a granite counter top and used epoxy for the joints. I would think that may be enough but I would also use a silicone joint compound as well.
Any more ideas?
