Good Lord, what is this?! (pic)

I'm in the middle of a basement bathroom renovation, and as part of adding a shower drain I had to cut off an existing cast iron drain pipe and link it to PVC.

When I cut off the iron pipe I got a nice surprise when I found that it was filled with this:

What the heck is that, and how do I get rid of it?? This drain was in use almost everyday as a laundry drain, so its not grease or waste. I thought it would stink, but it only has an "earthy" smell.

I thought it kind of looked liked Smegma when I magnified the photo.

Combination of everything that went down the drains the last couple years. Snake or power flush.

"Basement shower drain", or any shower drain= Water, hair, soap, shaving cream, more hair, shampoo, feminine stuff, leg hair, and anything that was put into the shower and washed down. I saw some stuff scraped from inside a bath drain pipe put under a microscope once. Would make most grown men puke.

To get rid of it, either replace the pipe or snake it out with a snake that runs along the outside perimeter of the pipe. Flush the line completely or the buildup will clog the pipe down stream.
Pvc pipes will keep the pipe less clogged as the sides are not rough like a rusting metal pipe.
