Going to install new PVC for sump pump but some questions

Im going to finally install new PVC for the pump this weekend. I just want to make sure I have all the necessary parts because I hate making several trips to home depot or lowes.

I was wondering what the parts are called that are circled in yellow? I was just going for the same setup as it is now, but going with an 1 1/2in instead of 1in. Eventually I plan on routing the PVC underground towards the street, but thats for another day.

Looks like a union...

They're nice to have a few feet from the pump so you can pull the pump out of the pit w/o having to cut your piping.

Good point.

OP, can you take a couple up close pics of the pump? Sometimes the check valve is the first thing plumbed on to the pump outlet and if that's the case, it may still be attached to the pump.

Also, where does the pipe go outside?

By IPC the check valve must be installed outside of the sump pit in a vertical position.

Thats a union, and I have never seen a sump pump down that deep in a sump pit. You better check the lift of the pump you have.

There is no check valve currently on this PVC line. Where would be a good place to install it? I have this pump http://www.amazon.com/Liberty-Pumps-...s=liberty+pump

Not sure why or who did this but the PVC outside of the house just shoots straight down next to the house. My plan to route it to the street.

you may want to ckeck with your city...some places don't allow to discharge sump water on road surfaces in winter time can become icy.... as far as check valve we install them on the verticial side within 3-4 feet of pump....ben sr

Do you have a drainage ditch by the road? If you have downspout drains run the sump to that.

Going to install new PVC for sump pump but some questions

So I haven't gotten around to doing the install yet. I was wondering if I needed to install a union? I decided I'm going to level the pump with bricks. That only leaves me 2 feet from the pump to the basement floor, which I guess isn't enough space?

My last minute decision was to put in a a rubber check valve because they are more quiet and durable from my understanding.

From my understanding the union is suppose to be installed before the check valve but I might have to install it further down the line by like 5 feet.

Do not need a union if you use that check valve.
Just loosen the clamp to remove the pump.

Going to install new PVC for sump pump but some questions

As joe said if you use that check valve you won't need a union. It will serve as both a check valve and a union. Next time you need to remove the pump from the pit, just loosen both hose clamps on the top coupling, slide it up onto the pipe, lean the pipe attached to the pump a little bit and you can pull it right out of the pit.

I'm not sure what you mean by 2ft from the pump to the basement floor isn't enough space? Are you saying the french drains entering the sides of the pit are going to be below the base of your pump?
