getting the lead out

I need to get the lead out of cast iron hub . Will a hand held torch get it hot enough to melt out the lead???or does the cast serve as a huge heat sink???

If latter is true what IS the quickest way to get them apart??.

Replacing badly rusted stool flange and elbow right under floor as well as eliminating a shower drain into the side of the elbow. No room to snap and no hub

Best to use a drill with about a 1/4" bit. Drill the lead out around the pipe then you should be able to wiggle the pipe out.

P.S. once you get it hot, how do you plan on removing it? Turkey baster?

E plumber has you on the right track. Good luck!

thanks Alan and E Plumber for your responses.

Alan- pipe is horizontal which makes joint coming out vertical. Plan was to let Mr. Gravity help me out or if just softened Mr. Beater Screwdriver help out ect.

E Plumber- Will drill and drill,,,once I get it started it rolls out pretty good, but starting is hard part. (its in a nasty crawl space tough to get to) hence an easier solution
