Gator bite & shark bite

Had to replace the 1" sprinkler supply line that leads from my basement to the outside. Is it ok to use a gator bite or shark bite coupling? I have never used them before.

1) Do a search of the forum for sharkbite. There are plenty of discussions on SharKbite and Gatorbite connectors.
Here is the most recent SharkBite Fittings OK?

2) Either in your post or in your profile please let us know where you live. The answer will depend on your local codes.

3) Be ready for a minor flame war. People's opinions of these products, independent of the codes, varies a lot (see 1 above). Personally, I only use them for temporary fixes that are not concealled. (I have so many things on my DYI and honeydo list, that temporary fixes have tendency to become permanent )

4) Heed the warning about removing the white plastic piece (see 1 above).

Yes there are 1" sharkbites that will work on copper. They are about $14 a piece.

Yes I purchased a 1" coupling and the job is done. I am just paranoid whether this will hold up over the years. Only time will tell I guess. It is in an open crawl space in my basement so I can keep an eye on it.

It will probably be fine, just out of curiosity, why were you hesitant to use a soldered coupling on copper?

Just because I have never done any plumbing work whatsoever except for some PVC. Have never soldered before. However I gave it a shot and soldered a copper coupling on repaired the issue.
