Gas stove installation

Hi guys, I am installing a new stove. I purchashed a new flexible gas line as well. Does any pipe compound go on the the gas line threads near the shut off valve? Also does any pipe compond go on the stove side connection? Or do I just thread on and check for leaks? Also is a spray bottle with soap good enough to test for leaks? Thanks

Thread on and check for leaks if it's a ground joint type. Soap is fine.
