Gas pipe in fireplace is broken?

Yeah its broken lol. Bought the house this way. What is the best way to go about fixing this? all they had was a pipe that they had cut notches in with a saw. Apparently this fireplace was originally gas assist. I'd like to make it gas... only. No wood.

Is there some way I can get a new type of setup, that will connect to that connector, and let me run the fireplace as gas only? I just want to turn on the gas and light the fire, and be done with it. And never have to clean up ash.

The best way? Call the gas company or a gas licensed plumber and have them replace that whole thing.
Looks like they used galvanized pipe which is wrong, did not sleeve the pipe to keep it from making contact with the mortar.
There also needs to be a shut off and a flex line to connect the logs.

Sounds like what you have is a log lighter. You need a gas log insert.

If possible I'd like to go without the logs. You know how some fireplaces just have the pipes that fire comes out of. Some of the nicer ones don't use the fake logs. That's what I'd like to have. Is that possible in this scenario?

Those are fake logs and coals nothing but gas fired.

I know but I'd like to have the modern look of no fake logs. Where you see a fire, but nothing else really.
