Gas lines in walls
Old gas wall heater was apparently removed from this bathroom. We are remodeling and found the capped off line in the wall.
Is this ok or should it be removed and capped in the attic?

If your in there.....and your sure that there is no chance you will use it....I would remove all the sections that you don't need.

Gas lines in walls
Is this line hooked into the rest of the system? If so, it's always a bad idea to leave a terminated/capped line inside of wall. The next person might not be as careful/lucky as you when remodeling.
Take back to the attic or other safe, but accessible location. Ball valve and cap the end of the line. |

Gas lines in walls
No necessary....but it means that if you want to add something in the future using that stub....you don't have to turn off the gas to do the work.
Case in point....over the past month I have turned off my gas about 6 times to finish up the gas lines in my 2-story addtion....I really wish I had installed a ball valve going to the addition....it would allow me to isolate that section and keep gas to the water heater and kitchen going..... Translation...the wife would have been a lot happier....

Gas lines in walls
Thanks, this line and actually the one in the bathroom down the hall, before this room, are on a branch off of the main gas line that will never be used again.
Thanks. |

Remove the pipe all the way back to the main and cap it or plug it using the proper dope, don't forget to leak check.
