Gas Hot Water Heater Recommendations

Hey Guys,

So, I just purchased a home and have been struggling with the water heater, it is a 50 gallon unit and pops and bangs while heating up. So I drained it twice to get rid of all of the sediment and it is still the same. I guess my only option left is to replace the unit? I might downsize to a 30 gallon model, it is just me and my wife. So I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? Model? Warranty? My plan was just to take a trip to the local Home Depot and pick up the cheapest 30 gallon unit?

Thanks in advance!

Rich

From what I've read in Consumer Reports, there is a huge difference in quality from "the cheapest model" to something that might cost you a few hundred more. Take the advice from the experts on here, but I'd caution against the cheap approach, especially if the tank is in an area that leakage could equal large problems in a few years.

Thanks for the reply guys, looked at the consumer reports and your right, looks like I am better spending that little extra. I will check out the line of Bradford water heaters.
