gas hot water heater leaking or not?

I have a Whirlpool gas 67 gallon hot water heater. Yesterday I was cleaning and noticed there was puddles of water sitting on the top where the copper connections are. I whiped it all dry and after a bit the water returns. In between the panel and the top of the water heater there is insulation... you can see this in the holes where the water connections are... the insulation is soaked and water slowly puddles up around the copper connections..??? Is this normal? I haven't lived in this house long so I am not sure if it has given any problems before or what is the solution? All advice welcome!

Thank you!

Not normal, how old is this heater?

Can you try to tighten up the connections?

RE: gas hot water heater leaking or not?

There is a date on there of 7/2003 I don't know if that is the manufactured date or the installation date... last night I tried to dry up the water again and I found a slow leak on the right side connection on the top. I don't know much about plumbing, but I am going to try and tighten it up hopefully it doesn't crack..

If it won't fix the leak, is this something you will be able to take apart and install a new connection?

Sounds like it's a water heater flex connect. These are easy to replace if needed.
