Better idea. Put the trash can on the toilet. Tell them that if they wouldn't use the garbage can to go to the bathroom in then they should not use the toilet to throw trash away. The first one that would make a move to use the trash can as a toilet would be flogged repeatedly with a rabid badger.

If this behavior cannot be unlearned by the offenders then sell them and use the money for a vacation.

You need to train your family not “free disposable”. House arrangement and bathroom cleanness should be first priority. I am personally against such kind of mess. I have trained my family and they are careful in this regard.

This thread is a joke, right?? What sort of idiot would throw lipstick tubes down the toilet?? Or dental floss?? Even feminine hygiene products are a no-no if you're on a septic system.

Pulled a fried sewage pump once- it was plugged with condoms.
The man of the house looked at his wife- "I don't need condoms"

Another time I pulled one jammed with a baggie.
The only person in the basement was a 20 yr old son who recently returned from drug rehab....

My wife has been flushing lipstick tubes for years, but we agreed she's not doing that anymore and I'm not doing the floss in there anymore.

I think the problem is that the toilet's right next to the sink and mirror so it's just easier to toss the trash right into the bowl than to go to the trash can in the kitchen or garage.

We bought a nice little trash can to keep next to the toilet and we're keeping the lid down to keep the impulse tosses down.

My main line has been snaked twice thanks to tampons. Thankfully because of the home warrenty, it was only $75.00 and the plumbers were nice enough to bill the second time as a recurrence of the initial problem. I can't imagine what trash would do to my pipes.

As punishment, the wife now has to give other female visitors the talk about how tampons do not get flushed in our house. After this, and the other recommendations by the plumber being taken (lint screen on the washing machine discharge) we've not had a problem.

Heh, any female guests on the boat get that talk. I make it clear, THEY WILL be back down to the boat to remove it if the system clogs.
