Have installed three sinks and drain lines - always a problem with leaks. Installed a full house water filter 6 months ago, and am currently adding a water softener. Problem: City shut off valve still allows a trickle of water into pipes, and water still trickles down from the house. It's next to impossible to have both halves of PVC connection dry for primer & PVC cement. Used Wet-or-dry cement last time, and connection lasted about an hour before flooding my garage for the umpteenth time. Suggestions? Hints?
I have never done this but ive been told you can stuff some white bread down the pipe to stop the water long enough to solder or glue the joint , then unscrew the faucet screen and run the water it will then push the bread out of the faucet, makes sense .
Oldrivers is correct, the white bread trick is something my dad taught me years ago, and I've used it a time or two. It can buy you a few moments.
Alternatively, add your own shut-off valve somewhere between the city valve and your house, or you may be able to add a faucet someplace low, where it will drain your pipes below the level where you're working.
use bread to stop leak in water lines and use transition glue for drains
