Frozen water meter

Long story short, but when I visited my cabin this weekend I found that my water meter had froze. The water was valved off ahead of the meter and the heat trace kept the piping from freezing, but I forgot to drain the meter itself. I guess that little 5' vertical section of pipe above the meter is important to drain off :stupid:

Anyway, it looks like the bottom of the meter was made with a steel plate that was made to break away if it froze. The circular plate broke right along the grooves splitting it into 4 equal pieces. We were able to "rig" it for the weekend to get water, but it leaks at the joint between the bottom plate and the meter body. Can I find a replacement plate from a plumbing supply store, or do I need to call the local water utility? It's a Invensys SR 5/8" meter.

In my area, you would be looking at buying a new meter! I would think that a call to your water utility is in order!

thats a replaceable part, probably cost 10-20 bucks unless a fine is sorta wrapped in the cost. They are supposed to do that for that very reason. probably a gasket inbetween thats tore or missin. i dont know how they interchange from meter to meter,,,but your utility will help you get one,,,or seek online!!

If anyone knows of a source online, please let me know. The gasket is okay - it's just the plate that broke. I was hoping to find one somewhere instead of having to go to the water department with my tail between my legs.
