Frozen Toilet Pipes

Please help!

One of our toilets froze up last night. It won't flush. What is a safe way to thaw it out? Can I put warm water in the toilet bowl? I think that hot water might crack the bowl.
Actually we got them unfrozen once (and we checked the water meter. It didn't look like we had a leak - but we're really concerned now.) We had below 0 again last night! Frozen again!! We're having very unusual weather here in Arkansas! Our homes probably just aren't made for this. We are in our 70's and we can't crawl under the house.
Thanking you in advance!

Frozen Toilet Pipes

Warm water in the back of the toilet won't hurt the tank---not HOT--

a space heater aimed in the general direction of the toilet and wall behind it will help.

Be prepared for a leak---You didn't mention what your pipes are made of--most pipe stretches as it freezes---repeated freeze/thaw will eventually burst the pipe---(PEX piping can take a lot of freeze thaw without bursting)

I suggest that you get someone to check under the house after the pipe is thawed---

Know where the main shut off is before you thaw--if you have a leak you will want to shut down the water while you wait for the plumber to show up.---Mike---

You'd be safest if you put a small heater in that bathroom and close the door and let it thaw slowly.

...although, I use hot water to clear ice from the car's windshield all the time..... never cracked a windshield yet!
